The 2010 Caledon Award Winner is announced

Caledon Laboratories Ltd. is very pleased to announce the 2010 Caledon Award was presented to Dr. Mehran Alaee at the Eighth Biennial International Conference on Monitoring and Measurement of the Environment - EnviroAnalysis 2010 -  on May 10th, 2010 in Toronto, Ontario.

Dr. Ray Clement had the following words of introduction for Dr. Alaee:

“Over the last 25 years Dr. Alaee has been a Canadian and international leader in the investigation of emerging environmental contaminants from the development of trace level analytical methods to directing research and presenting analytical findings. Dr. Alaee is internationally recognized as an expert in the field of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in the environment. 

His most recent work involves the determination of the sources and fate of brominated flame-retardants (BFRs) and siloxanes in the Great Lakes basin and arctic. Through the development and organization of scientific gatherings such as the International BFR Workshop and LC-MS/MS Applications in Environmental Analysis Symposium or chairing conferences including Dioxin 2005 – The 25th International Symposium on Halogenated Environmental Organic Pollutants and POPs or participating in numerous international scientific meetings, Dr. Alaee has helped the environmental community better understand the complex issues of environmental pollution and organic contaminants analysis.

In addition to directing trace organics research, Dr. Alaee furthers environmental knowledge as an Associate of the Graduate Faculty of the University of Guelph’s Department of Environmental Biology;  a visiting Fellow in Canadian Government Laboratories affiliated with the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC);  a member of the Editorial Board for Chemosphere; and member of the International Advisory Board for Dioxin Symposia. 

Dr. Alaee has an extensive publications list which includes more than 150 peer reviewed technical articles (57 in scientific journals, 74 in conference proceedings, etc.).

Dr. Alaee’s contributions to the knowledge base of environmental pollutants and trace level organics analysis has been significant and worthy of recognition by receiving the Caledon Award.”

The Caledon Award was presented to Dr. Alaee by David Brock, Vice-President and General Manager of Caledon Laboratories Ltd.  Dr. Alaee is a very worthy recipient and we congratulate him for his fine work.
